December Creative Fun Day Recap

We had a great Creative Fun Day this month.  Lots of different projects and lots of holiday spirit (and cookies, fudge etc.)   The Christmas tree was lit and Christmas songs played (at least for awhile when we remembered to restart the CD).   Here are some of the great projects created that day.

Laura arrived first and although she didn't actually make this rose, she cut out lots and lots of petals from coffee filters to make these roses for her sister's upcoming wedding.  I look forward to seeing the finished results in the wedding photos.

Caroline and Elizabeth made these really fun magnet note holders for Christmas gifts.
Caroline also created these clever snowflakes.
Elizabeth also worked in the studio using different drawing / color mediums and came up with these two pictures.

Christy, Caroline and Laura had fun learning how to make these record bowls with selected albums.
Cherith made some cards and some wrapping paper.  She used old paper bags and stamps to make this lovely recycled gift wrap.
Here is a closer look at the upper piece of wrapping paper.
We were so happy to have both Sarah and Leah join us while they were visiting.  It was so fun to catch up on their lives and to create with them again.  Sarah made these beautiful snowflakes.

Leah painted these feather drawings with watercolors.   They will make wonderful gifts.

I was so busy helping and talking to everyone that I almost didn't get anything of my own done.  However, I did sit down and decorate these matchboxes which I am using as a Christmas gift.
It was a great Creative Fun Day and the perfect way to end the first year of this experiment.  I am already looking forward to January's CFD and any new ideas we may have for making this day even more fun and creative.  :)

Hope to see you in January.   Happy New Year!

November Creative Fun Day Re-cap

We had a wonderful Creative Fun Day on Saturday and lots of interesting projects were made and new ideas hatched.  I am excited to show you some of them.

Susie – who brought us some delicious cupcakes – made these beautiful autumn leaf postcards with leaves she had collected and pressed and some Mod podge.

She then took the extra stems of the leaves along with some felt scraps and made this beautiful and colorful card.
Cherith also made a series of cards and inspired us all with new creative ideas.  Here are some of her cards.

  Here are some close-ups.

Makenna arrived with a bag of duct tape and within 90 minutes had created – without directions and using her own ideas – this beautiful duct tape lunch box for a very lucky friend.  It was amazing to watch her in action as she put this project together.

Laura stopped by, but didn’t have time to make anything of her own as she was on her way out of town for the holiday.  She helped several of us with our projects and she brought her awesome finished Halloween costume for us to see in person.  If you missed the updated picture on the October post, here it is.

I am still laughing at Rachel’s creation – an Obama doll.  My favorite part is the red tie!  (Plus she brought me an unexpected gift of river rocks and piled them decoratively by my driveway.  Thanks Rachel!!)
Elizabeth and Christy came and created an “Ugly Fish” doll (except that I think it is beautiful and not ugly at all).

Elizabeth also used some felt scraps to create these people
And then she used the white board and my dry erase markers to create a scene around her people.   The creativity was just bouncing off the walls this session!
I got to help with several projects and also made a padded mailing envelope out of wall paper and bubble wrap.  (The bubble wrap is glued inside and the wall paper was sewn on the sewing machine to make the envelope.)
I also decorated an ornament with handmade paper scraps.  I think I will do another one of these using scraps of book pages.
For those of you that missed this month’s Creative Fun Day, I hope this post will inspire you to join us next month on December 15!   Thanks again to everyone that came and shared in the Creative Fun!

November Creative Fun Day

NOVEMBER
CREATIVE FUN DAY

Next Saturday, November 17 will be our next Creative Fun Day.   As we are nearing the Christmas holiday, this would be a good time to work on making some handmade gifts, ornaments and other decorations for the holiday season.  We will have some things for you to make if you don't have any ideas.  This would also be a fun time to brainstorm gift ideas with other people. And of course, you can bring ANY creative project you want to work on.  For more information on Creative Fun Day, click here.

October Creative Fun Day Recap

We had a great Creative Fun Day on Saturday.  Rachel and I started the creative juices flowing early by attending Find Art in the Park – a great local art exhibit.  It is an indoor and outdoor event with a lot of interesting artists (many which are personal friends) and a variety of artwork from painting to ceramics to sculpture to woodwork to edibles.  Rachel and I each made some fun purchases including several loaves of artisan bread which we shared for lunch with some soup.

For our creative endeavors, I had a list of things that I wanted to work on .  I started by making a mini mummy.  I created a wire base by twisting the wire into a body form and then I wrapped it with some tiny strips off off white fabric.  So he is a mini mummy that I can bend into several positions.  I eventually added a magnet to his back and he became the day’s magnet for A Month of Days.  (This month conveniently being “magnet month”.)

I worked on a few other magnets that I will finish and share on A Month of Days sometime within the next week.  I also twisted some heavier wire to spell out the word BOO and then wrapped it with some black ribbon.  I planned to make a ghost garland for my office door with the BOO in the center of the garland to hang on my office door, but I ran out of time.
Rachel spent time reviewing some creative web opportunities including “Wordal” for her blog which was really fun.  I may even try it on this blog someday.  She also researched sites where she could sell her photographs and other projects online and got several good ideas.  I learned a lot while she was doing her research  She also twisted wire into the words STOP and GO, but didn’t have a chance to add fabric yet.  (Though I like them “bare” too.)
Laura joined us with her project which was her Halloween costume.  She has an awesome idea and so we all worked together to help her get started.  I can’t tell you what the idea is because it is a secret, but I can show you a picture of what we accomplished.

Maybe you can guess what it is!  - If not check the blog after Halloween.  Laura has promised to send pictures of the finished project!

We also had an unexpected visitor while we were working on Laura's costume.
This is Rascal, my friend from next door .  She visited until Scout decided that she was no longer welcome.
This is Scout saying -"You need to leave NOW."

It was another great Creative Fun Day.  Hope you can join us in November.

PS – I finished my ghost garland on Sunday and will be taking it to work on Monday.  Here is a photo.  I think I will make a few extra cute little ghosts to hang on the front door of my home.

UPDATE - Here is Laura's finished costume.  She is an autograph book!
